Field Trip: Cuerden Valley

Site Visit

During my third year, we went on a field trip to Cuerden Valley Park in Bamber Bridge.

Located in Preston, Lancashire. The trip was to understand sustainable approaches to design and construction.

This was through use of recyclable materials such as using straw bell hay in wall insulation, a natural material as oppose to traditional materials such as concrete.

This helped me to develop a deeper knowledge of sustainable materials, specifically what they are, how useful they can be and why.

Cuerden Valley was created as a result of a community project. From using all locally sourced materials for the visitor centre/cafe and renewable by products such as filled car-tyre for the foundations, the beautiful park and social centre has a low carbon footprint.
