ATELIER DEGREE SHOW

Timber Framed Modular House Design

Welcome to the UCLan Architectural Technology final year degree show and review.

My final year design project proposals explore the implementation of sustainable approaches in multi-generational residential design through building materiality, environmental consideration (project site activity and building envelope assembly) and biodiversity.

Project Brief

The aim of the project is to reach a design resolution produce an inclusive, biophilic, modular house for a multi-generational family in order to help develop a sense of unity, community and empowerment within domestic residences and homes by project completion.

The design scheme and approach for the project shall comprise implementation of passive design themes such as green architectural roofs, interior communal open spaces (courtyard) and modular/prefabrication wall systems.

The final design proposals may also allow future flexibility in material maintenance and performance to accomodate and meet the ever changing demands and spatial requirements of the end user.

All in all the presented project proposals aim to be sustainable with a housing strategy in consideration to allow affordability and comfort.

Site Survey and Investigations

Site Location

The site chosen is strategically located adjacent to Harrison road along Garstang main road and presents varied opportunities with consideration to the design brief and client requirements.

The location of the site is labelled by a red marked dot as shown in the site image above.

Site Photography

As part of my design stage 0-1 development for this project, the first call would be walking around the site and taking photography of the site's features as represented in the gallery of the existing site conditions.

Site Analysis

Digital Investigations of Site Conditions

The site analysis is the first call in any design brief to understand the layout and placement of services, legibility and access around the site.

Proposed Site Plan

Further project design stages and developments also saw to a new site plan proposal for the new modular house building. User requirements such as inclusivity and access influenced the proposed site plan development massively.

Design Proposals

The final design of the brief achieves a simple modular residence that is highly inclusive of all users, activities and furture occupants. The final building evelope is predominantly a timber frame structure.

Visual Collection

Finally to establish the choice of technical materials to be implemented into the building, sectional drawings of the modular house as well as detail drawings were undertaken to allow positive interpretation of design drawings on site.
